JUNE 2021

Evangeline

In early 2021, Eclipse's Artistic Producer Chilina Kennedy inked an arrangement with Ted Dystra author and writer of the original book and music of 'Evangeline'. That arrangement granted Chilina the permission to rework the original 'Evangeline' that had opened in its very successful global debut in 2013 in Charlottetown PEI. In the second week of June 2021, with Jani Lauzon as director and dramaturg, a wonderful group of artists came together virtually to work that process of re-configuration, with a cooperative melding of Eclipse Theatre with the Festival Players of Picton County. Emily Lukasik and Brandon Antonio played Evangeline and Gabriel, the star crossed lovers whose devotion fuels the fire at the heart of "Evangeline' . Adam Brazier, Jeremy Kushnier and Marcus Nange all contributed as Broadway veterans, as well as Canadian stars Graham Abbey, Nicole Joy-Fraser, Rejean Cournoyer, Tara Sky and Dillan-Meighan Chiblow. This was an important and satisfying first step in Chilina's work on the Ted Dystra musical - and there was a tangible pride in the group's accomplishment within a tight timetable. Everyone should watch for more updates on this transformative effort!

ETC Statement on Racism – 14 July 2020

Eclipse Theatre Company stands in solidarity with the voices fighting for change in Canada, the US and around the world. Black lives matter. Indigenous lives matter. People of colour’s lives matter.

As a company, we have the opportunity to educate ourselves and others and to contribute to the changes needed in order to achieve an inclusive society and the dismantling of systemic racism. We take responsibility for our actions and inactions that have contributed to white privilege and racism. We are currently working on identifying effective actions to be taken by our company, knowing that actions always speak louder than words. In the meantime, the first step is to educate ourselves, listen and learn.
